The Bates Method - to improve eyesight naturally

The Bates method is a very popular type of alternative therapy aimed at improving eyesight. It involves relaxing the six muscles around the eyes - when these muscles are strained, then eye problems such as myopia can form and worsen. Bates was able to prove that relaxing the eye muscles with a variety of exercises improved any visual vision impairment. Here are some of the eye exercises he invented:

1) Palming
Warm up your hands by rubbing them together. Sit down in a chair and place your elbows on your knees or a table. Face your palms toward your face and slightly cup thelower portion of your handswhile keeping your fingers straight. Place your eyes in the cups of your hands, which should gently rest above and below the bone surrounding your eye and cheek. No portion of your hand should touch your eyeball, but it is alright if your eyelashes brush against your palm. The fingers of both hands should slightly overlap resting near the center top of your forehead. With your eyes open, be sure there is no light entering your eyes. While maintaining this position, relax and close your eyes while you imagine you’re looking into the distant night. Remember, your eyes are relaxed as they look out at a distance – the purpose of this exercise. You might see flashes or floating colors, but the goal is to relax enough that you see nothing but black.
Palm for at last 3 minutes - 10 minutes.

2) Sunning

Some people recommend using the sun, but I find using a table lamb much easier. This is a great exercise to know how to improve eyesight. Adjust the lamp so that it shines into your face. While closing you eyes (and keeping them closed), rotate your head from left to right, then right to left in the direction of the light. Each rotation (left - right) should last three seconds. This exercise helps relax your eyes by creating a contrast between the darkness and the light.

3) Focal clarity
Focus on a distant object (over 150 feet or 50 m away) for 10-15 seconds. Then, slowly refocus your eyes on a nearby object (less than 30 feet or 10 m away) without moving your head. Focus for again for 10-15 seconds, and go back to the distant object. Do this 5 times. Try sitting about 6 inches (15 cm) from a window. Make a mark on the glass (ideally a small red or black sticker) at eye-level. Look through this mark and focus on something far away, then adjust your focus to the mark.

How to improve your eyesight

I personally know how having poor vision affects your life. Stronger prescription glasses are needed each year, and when you take your glasses off everything seems a blur. Contrary to popular belief, wearing glasses makes the condition worse as it weakens your eyes. Glasses are merely an aid (think of them as crutches - you don't use your legs as often, so they get weaker). The scientifically proven, known solutions to permanently improve eyesight are:

1) Laser eye surgery
This is the quickest and most convenient fix, but it can be expensive, usually costing a few thousand. The effects aren't always permanent with some patients complaining of needing glasses ago in a few years time, but this is only a very small minority. Thier are a variety of ways to book an appointment, but usually contacting your GP or optician is the recommended method.

2) Eye exercises
These are less well known and are what this blog will focus on. It will take between 30-60 days of following a regime of eye exercises (depending on how bad your condition is and how often you follow the exercises) to significantly help your eye condition, although many people find improvements in a few days. Eye exercises can fix all common eye problems - they work by strengthening the eye and by relaxing the muscles (usually close work causes the muscles around the eye to be stressed and contracted, thus causing bad vision.) A highly recommended program to follow is '' which has the best ease of use and have the most efficient eye exercises. This blog will supply eye exercises which subscribers will be able to follow to improve their vision and to provide information on various eye conditions.
